Indy Karters set to hit Adelaide Streets
Aussie Racing Cars (ARC) is a support category for the V8 Supercars and is Australia's largest race category. ARC is famous for pack racing, often 3 to 4 cars wide at nearly every event. The 2016 ARC Championship is contested over 6 rounds, kicking off at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this weekend. The series follows the V8 Supercars to Phillip Island in April, Darwin in June and then Ipswich in July. The fifth and sixth rounds are held seperate from the V8 Supercars. Round 5 due to be held at Sydney Motorsport Park in September followed by Hampton Downs, New Zealand in October to complete the Championship events. A specialty event will be held at Pukekohe in New Zealand with the V8 Supercars.
The series consists of many karters who have stepped up into car racing. Most recently Blake Sciberras who stepped into ARC mid 2015, missing rounds 1 and 2, he still managed 3rd place for Rookie of the year. This year Scibberas will be driving for Western Sydney Motorsports in the #68 Mustang. Kel Treseder competed in the last round of the 2015 ARC Championship series. He finished the weekend with an overall position of 7th place. Treseder has many karting achievements with 4 Australian Championships and 26 State Championships. This year Treseder will be driving the #75 Camaro. This sport isnt only for guys with 2 girls on the grid for this weekend; Ruth Bowler competing in her ninth ARC season and Emma Clark competing for her first time this year.
Not everyone needs to have Australian Karting Championship wins to join ARC. Indy 800 Kart Track members Harley Haber and David Sultana have also joined the ARC family and are set to race in Adelaide this weekend. Harley Haber competed at a few AKA events although most of his racing was competed at our sprint racing events at here Indy 800. Haber was often seen on pole position and the top of the podium for most events in Junior J Light. Mid last year, at the age of 16, Haber steped up into ARC and finished in 5th place for the 2015 Rookie of the year despite missing the first 3 rounds. This year Haber has unveiled a new car with new livery and a new major sponsor. Haber's hard work and effort in last years ARC Championship has earned him major backing by CEJN Australia. He also have gained sponsorship for the season from Aero can, Nucifera products and lease a race car. Haber recently unveiled his all new white Mustang with Mustang blue stripes. David Sultana will be making his debut in ARC this weekend at Clipsal. He has raced in many karting events in AKA, Endurance Events and sprint races here at Indy 800. He has competed in many different classes from Subaru, Clubman, Leopard and Rotax and many other classes in between. His last season in karts was at Indy 800 Kart Track which saw him take out every round win and the Championship win by more than 100 points. Sultana has gained local backing sponsors from the Hawkesbury area which have all been very supportive for him already this year as he gears up for his first event in ARC. Sultana's sponsors include Newline Tranpsort, Riverview Landscapes, Coldy's Towbars & Bullbars, Lago Quality Smallgoods, Diesel Finance along with Indy 800 Kart Track, Spot-On Tyres & Brakes, Creative Signworx and Krizmik Industries. Clipsal 500 currently has 41 entrants registered in the ARC category for this weekend.
