What is Handicap Racing at Indy 800? 

There is no denying that a certain amount of investment is required to enter Go Karting.. Typically it requires a Go Kart and safety equipment such as Race Suite, Helmet, Gloves, Boots and appropriate support equipment.To enter into the mainstream categories of go Karting there is also equipment compliance, regulations, scrutineering and entry fees that  add to the expense of trying out the sport.

The aim of Handicap Racing at Indy 800 is to minimise the initial expense and investment so as it is significantly more affordable to enter the sport.

 Indy 800 realise that this may lead to the participant entering the more regulated and mainstream forms of motor sport into the future and definitely see the  handicap events as being a feeder group into the more mainstream environments.  The Indy 800 Events Team is confident that This Handicap Racing forum in a proven environment will lead to an increased number of People entering into the more mainstream environment of first past the post racing and will activity encourage entrants to mature into this environment.

Indy 800 Handicap racing does have rules and regulations that have to be followed to participate but these rules and regulations are  focussed around safety both for event management and safety around equipment. We do regulate the type of equipment a participant can use based on age and experience but this is solely from a safety of all participants’ perspective not a regulated event.

How does it work? 

The fundamental premise around Handicap racing is based on the average lap time a person can negotiate the Indy 800 Track over a period of measured laps. As an entrants capability and experience improves it is natural that lap times will become shorter on average and we have facilitated events and classes of event around this supposition.

This average lap time is used to calculate what Handicap group a person should enter into..

The results are calculated on a person entering an event completing the number of  laps closest to but not faster than the minimum lap time.

The benefits of this are: 

A person may as long as they have a Go Kart that is scrutineered for safety and is within a broad range of specifications can enter a competitive event at a minimal investment. A person entering the sport can learn all the appropriate race craft required to enter mainstream categories of motor sport.

This is an ideal avenue for those wanting to enter the sport of for those that want to have a motor sport activity without the significant investments required in the mainstream environments.OLD or YOUNG it is a great way to have a "race" and enjoy the day in a safe friendly environment.
